Getting to Young Leaders
Young Leaders Program is held at Willamette University. Check-in will be held at Ford Hall, First Floor, which is easily accessed from State Street, across from the Oregon Capitol Building. You are welcome to park temporarily on State Street for unloading and check-in, but then please move your vehicle to the Spark Field Parking Area if you plan to stay for the Welcome Ceremonies.
All students and attached staff should assemble at the Clock Tower outside the Mark O Hatfield Library no later than 12:00PM for First Assembly. Do not be late, or you will learn the consequences through public restitution!
You and your families are welcome to attend the Opening Ceremonies, which will be held in the Theater on the first floor of Ford Hall. There you will meet the Program Staff and receive an overview of the week. Following that, you will have a brief tour that ends at Goudy Dining Hall for Lunch! Following lunch there will be a program orientation, The Games, our first Keynote Speaker, the Election Convention, and Much More!
You should plan to come ready for hard work. You will arise early, prepare yourself through personal hygiene and breakfast, and plan your daily adventure. You will learn by doing through the interactive simulation and first hand through outstanding speakers and classes. You will fall asleep each night exhausted and satisfied only to arise early the next day to do it all over again.
During this program, you will be treated like an adult, and you are expected to act like one. Childlike behavior is not tolerated by staff nor students and will mitigate your effectiveness within the program. Take it seriously, and you will exceed your highest expectations of yourself and return home a new person.
