New!  There have been some big changes to the Curia due to a planned protest event at the Library/City Hall in Springfield.  The Library and City Hall are now closed on Saturday, so we are moving to a longer event Friday!

Come learn to speak & debate in this fun, interactive spring break event!  Sponsored by Young Leaders Program & Springfield Library, this program is both fun and educational!

Location:  Springfield Library
Preregistration:  Highly Recommended.  Lunch, shirts for pre-registrants only.

Getting to Young Leaders

Young Leaders Program is held at Linfield University .  The main campus address is:
900 State St

How to Arrive at Campus

Check-in will be at FORD HALL  Please click the button below for the Map Link to the Building.
Short term check-in parking is right in front of Renshaw Hall.   The Dorms are right across the street.

​Check-in is 3PM to 5PM

Upon arrival at Young Leaders Program, you will pass through two "Gauntlets," one for the program (the real world) and one for the simulation (the fun one!) where you will do the following:
  • Check-in and receive packet, which includes:
    • Guidebook
    • Lanyard/Nametag
    • ßrapples (pronounced Brapples, this is our simulation money)
    • Information sheet
  • Get photographed (required)
  • Receive Uniform shirts and Athletic Shirt
  • Turn in Medications 
  • Turn in car keys (if you drove yourself)
  • Pay any remaining tuition balance
  • ​And more

After Checking in...

You will be escorted to your room by a staff member or volunteer to drop-off your bags and gear and get into your uniform.

Immediately after that, you should head back to FORD Hall for assessments.

In FIRD Hall, you will do the following:
  • Knowledge Pre-Test 
  • Bar Exam

After that, you will go upstairs and begin StateCraft planning for the week!

First Assembly

 All students and attached staff should assemble at the Flagpole next to FORD Hall no later 5PM for First Assembly.  At first Assembly we will get you into your states, teach you some basic procedures, and then take you to have lunch with your States.

Visitors

Dorms are shared among several students, so visitors are not allowed in them.  Parents should say their goodbyes at the registration desk.  

Get Ready for The Week

You should plan to come ready for hard work.  You will arise early, prepare yourself through personal hygiene and breakfast, and plan your daily adventure.   You will learn by doing through the interactive simulation and first hand through outstanding speakers and classes.   You will fall asleep each night  exhausted and satisfied only to arise early the next day to do it all over again.

During this program, you will be treated like an adult, and you are expected to act like one.  Childlike behavior is not tolerated by staff nor students and will mitigate your effectiveness within the program.   Take it seriously, and you will exceed your highest expectations of yourself and return home a new person.

What You Need to Do

Even though this adds an extra step, we ask that all students and families download the Remind app to stay connected for the rest of the season.

All Good Things Must End

One of the highlights of Young Leaders Program is the final day.    Here's what's happening!

Break-fast and Pack 7:30-9:30

Breakfast will be served as normal at 7:30, after which students will go to their room to pack up.
Pack-up time is 8AM-9:30AM.  Then, take ALL Luggage to Renshaw Hall and ask your floor monitor to check you out of your room.   Your room should be EMPTY when you are done.  You may then turn in your key.

Assembly at 9:30 AM, then UhN

Assemble at 9:30 AM and then go into the UhN Assembly Room.
The Uhn will assemble from 10-11:30.  After which, there will be a post-test on your learning at YLP followed by 

Lunch at Noon.

The UhN will resume at 12:45.
​After the UhN adjourns at 2:30 there will be a half-hour break to get ready to leave.  Please return any materials borrowed from Simgineering at this time.

Graduation at 3PM

Graduation will allow all students to shine.  We hope all families will attend to support their students!
​

Check-out

After graduation, please go to Renshaw Hall to pick-up your luggage and graduation certificates.  If you haven't already done so, please be sure to turn in your key AND SWIPE CARD.  The lost key fee is $100.

After that, you are free to leave!  Drive Safe!

Parents, siblings, and other family and friends are invited to attend the Young Leaders Program Graduation. This graduation will be held in Graf-Keck Auditorium on the campus of Linfield University. 

After graduation you will need to drop off your keys and check-out ticket, and pick up your luggage and graduation certificates from the first floor of Renshaw Hall.  

​The lost or missing key fee is $100, so be sure not to lose your key!

Young Leaders is better with a friend... or three!

Whether you want to get elected president, start a business or take over the world, YL is better with allies!  So why not bring some of your own!  Earn an in-sim (game) currency bonus  for each student who registers by July 12 by  midnight and then comes to camp!  

​Additionally, If they stay the whole week and graduate you can also get a $30 signing bonus (American cash) for each person you refer who stay all week and graduate!

BONUS:  Level up with in-Sim currency!

Jump ahead of other students by earning in-sim currency for each ally you refer that comes to camp all week and graduates!   Spend it at the sim-store, buy advertisements in the news, use it to pay a fine or fee, hire an attorney, run for office, or anything within the sim!

Anyone who refers a student for YL Program that finishes and graduates the program can earn a $30 cash completion bonus!  (That's American Money).  

Fine Print

In-Sim Currency Bonus
  1. Your ally must register for YLProgram by July 11 at midnight.  
  2. Your ally must put your name in the Referred by/Sponsor box.
  3. Your ally must come to camp day one.

In addition to the steps above, 
  1. Ally must come and complete the week
  2. Ally also must graduate in good standing.
