Getting to Young Leaders

Young Leaders Program is held at Linfield University .  The main campus address is:
900 SE Baker Street 
McMinnville, Oregon 97128 

How to Arrive at Campus

Check-in will be at Graf Hall.  The address there is Linfield University, 325 SW Linfield Ave, McMinnville, OR  97128

Just search Linfield University in your preferred maps app.  The easiest way is to turn onto Linfield Avenue from Highway 99W and go three blocks until you see the signs and the new Science Building called Graf-Keck Hall which is on Linfield Avenue right across from Renshaw Avenue.  Please view the map above for the check in area highlighted in red.

There is not a lot of parking, so once students have been checked in you are encouraged to depart to allow other students to arrive.   Families are not allowed in the dorms, so plan to say your goodbyes at Graf Hall!

​Check-in is 9AM to 11AM

Upon arrival at Young Leaders Program, you will pass through two "Gauntlets," one for the program (the real world) and one for the simulation (the fun one!) where you will do the following:

• Check-in and receive packet, which includes:
  • Guidebook
  • Lanyard/Nametag
  • ßrapples (pronounced Brapples, this is our simulation money)
  • Information sheet
• Get photographed (required)
• Receive Uniform shirts and Athletic Shirt
• Turn in Medications 
• Turn in car keys (if you drove yourself)
• Pay any remaining tuition balance
• Trials & Auditions Schedule
• And more

Trials & Auditions are 9:30 to 11:00

You will then be escorted to your room by a staff member to drop-off your things and get into uniform.

Immediately after that, you should head off to the designated area for Trials & Auditions.  During Trials & Auditions, you will set yourself for success the rest of the week by participating in one or more of the following activities.  They include:

• Law Enforcement Physical Fitness Test
• Bar Exam
• Media/Technology Program Auditions
• Special Opportunities Sign-ups
• Registration for Parties
• Political Office Application
• And much more!

First Assembly

 All students and attached staff should assemble at the Flagpole in the QUAD (the area between all of the educational buildings) no later 11AM for First Assembly.  At first Assembly we will get you into your states, teach you some basic procedures, and then take you to have lunch with your States.

Visitors

Dorms are shared among several students, so visitors are not allowed in them.  Parents should say their goodbyes at the registration desk.

Get Ready for The Week

You should plan to come ready for hard work.  You will arise early, prepare yourself through personal hygiene and breakfast, and plan your daily adventure.   You will learn by doing through the interactive simulation and first hand through outstanding speakers and classes.   You will fall asleep each night  exhausted and satisfied only to arise early the next day to do it all over again.

During this program, you will be treated like an adult, and you are expected to act like one.  Childlike behavior is not tolerated by staff nor students and will mitigate your effectiveness within the program.   Take it seriously, and you will exceed your highest expectations of yourself and return home a new person.
